He quickly called Noel, and it was almost a done deal right then. Stewart was eager to proceed just in time for the end-of-year Christmas parties; he just needed to run it by the real boss — his wife, Lisa.

Background

Grab a coffee and a few biscuits because this success story has been in the making for a few years. Andrew and Noel initially connected in early 2023 but didn't end up working together until the end of the year. In December 2023, Andrew was on the verge of joining but the end-of-year rush made it difficult to finalise. Finally, in January 2024, Andrew agreed to a 12-month membership with The Haylo, under the condition that he could opt-out if The Haylo didn't pay for itself within the first 3 months. Noel confidently accepted, knowing Andrew’s primary service offering at Concrete Boots Bar was hosting functions, being open from Wednesday to Sunday.

The Challenge

Andrew’s main goal was to add extra value to his function offerings. With a pool table already in the venue, he had previously used photo booths supplied by external companies, which charged anywhere from $700-$1000 for 4-5 hours. Andrew wanted a more cost-effective solution that could offer his clients more value and entertainment.

The Strategy

To undercut the market, we decided to price The Haylo at $450 for an all-night hire. This strategy was aimed at providing a more affordable and attractive option for event hosts while ensuring consistent use and revenue for the venue.

Implementation

In February 2024, Noel was in Melbourne for a friend’s wedding, so he personally stopped by Concrete Boots Bar to set up The Haylo. We immediately started reaching out to Andrew’s pre-existing bookings. Some clients responded, some didn’t. However, within a few hours, we made our first $200 sale. This was quickly followed by sales of $450, $349, $450, and more. In just the first 8 days, we generated $2,500!

Results

Andrew was shocked and very impressed with the results, especially since his main clientele for functions were typically celebrating 40th and 50th birthdays. He hadn’t expected the older generations to be so enthusiastic about a photo booth. The Haylo not only met but exceeded expectations, proving to be a valuable addition to Concrete Boots Bar.

To date, since Andrew joined in mid-February 2024, he's used The Haylo for 36 different events, continually enhancing the experience for his guests and driving significant engagement and appreciation.
